Chapter Three

Los Angeles

Ava opens her groggy eyes and realizes she is drugged up and strapped down on a medical examining table. Out of focus and unsure of what is going on, she reaches out with her mind to try and contact Lonnie and Rath.

Meanwhile, Dale Bartolli is discussing Ava with special agent code-named “Viceroy” Matthew Margolin. Not knowing that there are two sets of the royal four, Bartolli is extremely confused about how Michael and Isabel can be in two places at once. Viceroy agrees that the aliens are tricky and manipulative and instructs Bartolli to place tinfoil on his head.

Bartolli refuses at first to believe that tinfoil will actually prevent Ava from invading his mind, but Viceroy convinces him otherwise. Feeling like an idiot, Bartolli complies.

Somewhere on Melrose Avenue, Lonnie and Rath are eating outside a small eatery. Lonnie notices that Rath has been acting odd all morning and when she demands to know why, he admits that he feels guilty about letting the government capture Ava.

Lonnie has trouble believing that Rath feels remorse since it was his idea to let her be captured, but she agrees to try and save Ava. Afterwards, if they succeed, the East Coast Royal Four intend on tracking down Kal Langley for protection.
