Chapter Nine
City of Industry, California
As night quickly approached, Rath and Lonnie crouched outside of the building they were sure Ava was being kept in. They both had changed their appearances from their regular New York punk style to a more conservative Special Unit cover. Still both unsure of why they were risking their lives to save Ava, they both felt compelled to continue with their plan.
Viceroy and Bartolli watched on their computer monitors as the Evans girl and the Guerin kid, or perhaps their duplicates as the Special Unit team in Elk had reported, broke into their base.
Viceroy and Bartolli exchanged a pleased glance; their plan was going as expected. They knew that Ava had the power to mindwarp, which was why they were wearing these ridiculous tinfoil hats, and they knew Ava would have no choice but to try and mindwarp her alien friends.
Rath and Lonnie, however, realized this much too late. As soon as they entered the examining room where Ava was being kept, Ava stopped using her mindwarping powers and the other two aliens immediately realized she had forced them to come and rescue her.
Not long after freeing Ava from her fetters, the Special Unit agents came down on them. Rath and Ava managed to escape, after a lot of bloodshed and sustaining some injuries themselves, but Lonnie remained captured by the FBI.
Once it was over, and Viceroy accepted that Rath and Ava had escaped once again, Viceroy gave the command to begin “invasive procedures” on the Evans girl.
