Chapter Eight
Naperville, Illinois
Isabel immediately kicked her attacker in the midsection in an attempt to get away, but he was too fast. As she struggled with the alien that was trying to kidnap her, she heard Kyle’s voice ask if she was all right from behind the locked door.
Before she could answer, the alien pointed the alien device at her and she was at once paralyzed where she stood. Kyle, breaking down the door, jumped the alien and after a tussle, slammed the back of the alien’s back, turning the Skin to dust.
Communicating with Isabel through his new psychic powers, Kyle learned she had been paralyzed with the alien device. Fiddling with it, he figures out how to free her, but not before another Skin--Lucinda, in fact--enters their small train suite.
After pinning Lucinda to the ground, Kyle stops her from committing suicide and attempts, with Isabel’s help, to extract information from her using his new powers. Once inside Lucinda’s mind, Kyle is able to discover that the skins used the alien tracking devices that were activated on May 15th, 2000 to find Isabel on the train.
Not finding anything else useful in Lucinda’s mind, Kyle retreats back to being whole again and watches in shock as Isabel dusts Lucinda. Seeing Kyle’s shock, Isabel reminds Kyle that they are at war and that Max is right; if they want to survive, they have to start fighting back.
A couple hours later, a fully clothed Isabel and a shaken up Kyle sit together on the train, flirting in a friendly way and trying to come to terms with their current situation.
They decide to try and combine psychic powers in an attempt to allow Isabel to dreamwalk Jesse. Their plan works, and Jesse and Isabel are delighted to see and talk to each other despite the desperate situation at hand. Jesse tells Kyle and Isabel all about the happenings in Roswell, the abduction of the Evans and Parkers, and why he is currently flying to California.
Isabel tells Jesse, who is currently on one of Brody’s private jets, to stop in Chicago and pick up her and Kyle. Jesse agrees. Once the dreamwalk is broken, however, Kyle looks at Isabel like she is insane. They both know that if they head out to California with Jesse and Shelby, the chances of Liz’s premonition coming true will be greater. Isabel, convinced this is the right thing to do, even if it seems wrong, warns Kyle not to tell Jesse about Liz’s premonition, and the two of them continue their train trip to Chicago, the two lost in their own thoughts.
